Hey y’all! Some incredibly exciting news: I will be in San Diego to cover USAU Club Nationals this year!
This is a bit of a leap of faith, but I trust myself and my ability to deliver content that people enjoy during the times of the ultimate calendar with the most eyes on the sport. This is an investment in myself, this platform, and you all, and a desire to change the journalism game in our sport.
In the coming weeks, I will share a space for you all to support this effort financially if you are willing and able to do so. I am considering creating a premium subscription option on Substack or Patreon. If you all have preferences for either, please let me know what you think would be the easiest/best way to support it and continue to foster a community.
The amount of content that will be available for free will not change. If I can get a decent amount of support, it will hopefully increase. I do not want to paywall any ultimate-related content. Still, if there are premium subscription benefits you would be interested in (suggesting article ideas/tournaments to cover, for example), I would also love to hear those ideas.
Consistent financial support would allow me to travel more to ultimate events, so we can consider the nationals trip a proof of concept!
Here are some ideas I’ve had for what my coverage of nationals could look like:
Embed with a team for the weekend
Cover in-depth one non-streamed game per round via live tweeting or writing up recaps afterward
Short-form interviews of players, coaches, volunteers, and fans
Anything else that you’d be interested in!
Writing The Breakside brings me immense joy, but I want it to serve the wider community’s interest and passion for the sport. Your feedback is so important! Let me know what you’d like to see this October, and I will do my best to make it happen.
Additionally, I will try to allow myself to test out some of this live content by attending one or both of North Carolina Club Sectionals and Southeast Club Regionals. So expect a lot of fun live coverage coming your way in the coming months.
I am incredibly excited to take a bit of a leap of faith and see if this is truly something that you, my readership, and the broader ultimate in community want! Stay tuned for more updates and content coming soon. Let me know what you want to see(!!!), and thank you again for your continued support of The Breakside.
